Nissan Motor CEO says Datsun brand to return to Nissan

By Andjarsari Paramaditha

(Reuters) - Nissan Motor Co's revived Datsun brand will target increasing sales in Indonesia, India and Russia, the firm's chief executive told reporters on Tuesday.

Nissan plans to invest $400 million in Indonesia over the next two years, will double hiring by 2014 and triple its dealerships in Southeast Asia's largest economy to 90,000, CEO Carlos Ghosn said during a visit to Jakarta.

Nissan quit using the Datsun brand in 1981, but earlier this month a newspaper announced plans to revive the nameplate for cars and trucks for emerging markets. "It's a green car, affordable car, small displacement, high local content," Ghosn said of the Datsun. "It's going to be a generous car."

Nissan executives met Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Monday and said they would inject $400 million for plant expansions to double production by 2014.

Nissan appointed Kintaro Izumida as president director of PT Nissan Motor Indonesia (NMI) and PT Nissan Motor Distributor Indonesia, earlier this month, replacing Takayuki Kimura.

"The priority (for Nissan Motors in Indonesia) is for the Indonesian market," Ghosn said. "If there is any room for more capacity it will be located for the domestic (market) rather than for exports, although cost is competitive."

NMI had previously targeted sales of 60,000 units and sales growth of 7 percent, according to the company website, which also said it would open 70 dealerships by end of 2011.

NMI is the third best-selling brand in Indonesia and hopes to increase sales by launching a cheaper multipurpose vehicle (MPV) and city car suited specifically for its market.

The company's largest sales in Indonesia come from its popular family mini van Grand Livina, which accounts for 45 percent of sales. The city car lines, March and Juke, came second in line with 40 percent.

PT Indomobil Sukses Makmur, Nissan's authorised distributor in Indonesia, launched its crossover model, Nissan Juke in the first half of last year, and has sold 1,600 units per month since.

Nissan has been pushing rapidly into emerging markets, including a partnership with Ashok Leyland Ltd in India and a recently announced factory in Brazil, where it aims to triple its market share by 2016.

Nissan and its French partner, Renault SA, are also close to announcing a deal to increase the alliance's stake in Russia's AvtoVAZ, the maker of Lada cars, to aid growth there.

A resurrection of Datsun would follow a growing trend to bring back heritage nameplates, including Toyota's 86, or "Hachi-roku" sports car, Chrysler's Dodge Dart and partner Fiat's 500.

All-New 2013 Nissan Altima Unintentionally Revealed in Official Video

In a video celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, the Japanese automaker accidentally showed a pre-production prototype of the 2013 Altima sedan without any camouflage.

The find was made by Mike Magrath from Insideline who was able to capture a screen shot of the car before Nissan pulled out the video replacing it with a revised version (3.44 minutes into the clip) that displays a covered up prototype of the Infiniti JX crossover in its place.

2013 Nissan Pathfinder Concept: 2012 Detroit Auto Show

Just the Facts:
-Nissan's midsize Pathfinder SUV is shifting from a body-on-frame design to unitized construction for model year 2013.
-The Pathfinder Concept previews the production version that will reach U.S. dealers this fall.
-The 2013 Pathfinder gets a smaller V6 engine and continuously variable automatic transmission.

DETROIT — Nissan's midsize Pathfinder SUV is shifting from a body-on-frame design to unitized construction for model year 2013. And that's not the only major change on the fourth-generation Pathfinder that's due to reach U.S. dealers this fall and is previewed in the Pathfinder Concept that debuts here at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

To secure a 25-percent increase in combined city/highway fuel economy, while retaining the vehicle's towing capability, Nissan is reducing the weight of the 2013 Pathfinder and fitting it with a smaller-displacement V6 and a continuously variable automatic transmission.

The current 2012 Pathfinder, which shares its body-on-frame architecture with the much larger Nissan Armada, comes with a standard 4.0-liter V6 and five-speed automatic transmission. The EPA rates that combination at 15 mpg in city driving and 22 mpg on the highway.

The next-gen Pathfinder is likely to borrow heavily from the Murano, which has a 260-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 and a CVT, with EPA city/highway ratings of 18/23 mpg.

Nissan said the smaller V6 in the 2013 Pathfinder "maintains nearly the same horsepower as the previous generation's larger-displacement V6."

The Pathfinder Concept shows off the new exterior design cues that are expected to grace future Nissan trucks, but its interior won't be revealed until either the Chicago or New York auto show.

Nissan said the truck will have three rows of seats, with accommodations for seven passengers.

The automaker said the new Pathfinder will feature an "intuitive four-wheel-drive system," as well as "towing capacity competitive with leaders in the segment." The interior will have "excellent legroom in all three rows and ample cargo room behind the third row."

Inside Line says: Nissan says the 2013 Pathfinder is one of 20 new or redesigned products that it plans to bring to the U.S. market over the next two years.

Burlapp Find: 2013 Nissan Rogue?!?

I for one think that this would be a nice improvement over the existing Rogue, but then again I've always felt that the current Rogue doesn't stack up against the outgoing Nissan X-Trail (only available in Canada at the time, but is still sold abroad).

Leftlane News: Next Gen Nissan Altima Spyshots

By Andrew Ganz
Monday, Nov 21st, 2011 @ 3:08 pm
Nissan’s strong-selling Altima has been a hit for the Japanese automaker since its mid-1990s debut, but a fifth-generation model is just around the corner.

Our spy braved a torrential downpour to discover a a bright red Altima sedan covered in camouflage. But despite the presence of the camo, it’s not hard to make out the new Altima’s curves.
From the rear, we can easily see that the back fenders and the tail lamps will closely mirror the larger Maxima brother. Unlike the current car, which traces much of its design to the third-generation model, the new Altima will be much less angular.
Up front, a familial tie to the recently-released Nissan Versa is evident. But where the Versa is necessarily downmarket, the Altima gets a little more playful with complex designs to its headlamps and lower light package.
The black wheels on this car are likely painted such to distract from their appearance; a black wheel trim package seems an unlikely Altima option.
We don’t know what’s under this Altima’s hood, but rumors suggest that a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder will serve as motivation for most Altimas. The current 2.5-liter four is expected to be put out to pasture, but Nissan is expected to follow in the footsteps of Toyota by keeping a V6 option for range-topping models. Hyundai and General Motors have been slicing V6s from their midsize sedan lineups.
Putting the turbo four’s power to the front wheels will be a new CVT, which has been reengineered to deliver better fuel economy and a higher level of refinement.
A version of the 2.5-liter four is expected to show up alongside an electric motor for a homegrown hybrid inspired by the Infiniti M Hybrid. The last Altima Hybrid was a limited-market model built using Toyota’s hybrid technology and it was discontinued for the 2012 model year.
Look for the new Altima to debut at the New York International Auto Show in early April before going on sale by the end of the summer. The current Altima coupe will likely stay on for another year before being redesigned in an effort to become more emotional and evocative.

Japan's plants hum, but hurdles remain

By Hans Greimel
TOKYO -- Playing a frantic game of catch-up, Japan's automakers are running assembly plants at a pace faster than pre-earthquake schedules in order to boost inventories and recoup sales.

Toyota and Nissan are leading the surge, with output in Japan not only back to normal but exceeding year-ago levels. Mazda and Suzuki have reported their first year-over-year production increases since the March 11 quake, and Honda, Subaru and Mitsubishi are close behind.

But even as the companies return to full domestic output, big hurdles remain.

Some model variants are still in limited production because of lingering shortages of parts, especially microcontrollers. And even with output restored, it could take months for carmakers to rebuild prequake inventory levels, especially at U.S. dealerships.

Suppliers may struggle to keep pace with the surge. And automakers are rejiggering supply chains so they won't get burned again.

They are racing to find multiple sources for parts; tighten control over lower-tier suppliers; buy more parts overseas; and even bolster stockpiles, an abrupt change from Japan's treasured just-in-time approach.

Building inventories
Toyota is among the most aggressive in its supplier overhaul.

"We have instructed them to have a plan that allows them to go back to normal operations within two weeks of a major disaster," Shinichi Sasaki, Toyota Motor Corp.'s executive vice president for global purchasing, told Automotive News.

Toyota's domestic output rose 12 percent in August -- its first year-over-year increase since the earthquake. But it does not expect normal U.S. inventories until March.

Nissan's domestic production actually edged ahead of last year's in May. But not even Nissan says it can make all the car variants it wants. Because of pinched pipelines for some microcontrollers, the small computer chips that control everything from engines to entertainment systems, Nissan does not expect to return to unrestricted production until later this month.

Subaru says its Japan plant will be back to normal by the end of October. But it will take until March for the brand to achieve prequake U.S. inventory levels, especially for Japan-made models such as the Forester SUV and Impreza sedan.

Chips still down
Output of most models at Honda is almost back to normal. But it is still facing shortages of the redesigned Civic in the United States and the Brio small car for Asia. Because those cars were introduced after the quake, Honda couldn't stockpile enough microchips. Civic production should return to normal by the end of this month, and U.S. inventories of the model are expected to be restored by late November.

Nissan spokesman Toshitake Inoshita said: "In terms of raw production numbers, we have more than full production. But we are still waiting on some electronic chips."

Chip maker Renesas Electronics Corp. of Tokyo remains a bottleneck, but that will ease soon. The supplier, which controls about 41 percent of the global market for automotive microcontrollers, returned to prequake output at the end of September, spokeswoman Kyoko Okamoto said. That means a normal flow of chips will start to reach automakers this month.

But Renesas is far from recovered. It recouped prequake output by shifting work from its damaged Naka factory in Japan's quake zone to chip foundries in Singapore and Taiwan. The Naka factory is still limping along at just over half its prequake capacity. Until the factory is fully restored, it may be hard for Renesas to meet increased demand as automakers ramp up.
Masaya Yamashita, Honda Motor Co.'s global purchasing boss, says: "In order to supply to the carmakers, I think Tier 1 suppliers are really struggling to make deliveries to all of us. The parts are reaching us. But the inventory of parts in the chain is pretty tight."

The pinch has Toyota revising its famous low-inventory, just-in-time production system.

Normally, Toyota carries a two-month inventory of Renesas chips, global procurement chief Sasaki says. But it will raise that figure to as high as four months.

"Right now we are recalculating the optimal volume of inventory that is necessary based on our estimate of how long it will take production at our suppliers to resume after a disaster," he said.

Another new norm: paternalistic big-footing of lower-tier suppliers, a practice previously all but unknown.

Take Nippon Chemi-Con Corp., a maker of aluminum foil for electrolytic capacitors for the electrical system. Its factory was wiped out.

Toyota, which is accustomed to working intimately with Tier 1 and 2 suppliers, decided to get active with lower-tier suppliers that had been flying far below the radar. But when Toyota stepped in to help Nippon Chemi-Con, the industry supplier rebuffed Toyota as an interloper, according to an internal Toyota report reviewed by Automotive News.

Only after weeks of arm-twisting by did the supplier acquiesce to Toyota's help in pumping out 700 tons of liquid waste that had flooded the factory.

Paint battle
Toyota also butted heads with pigment maker Merck, which makes a pearl luster pigment called Xirallic. Merck's kilns in Onahama, Japan, were damaged and unable to supply the pigment, which is a component in many paint colors and is used in about 20 percent of Toyota's vehicles.

Merck rejected Toyota's offers of assistance, according to the Toyota report. So Toyota tried making its own pigments -- with mixed results. Of 67 missing colors, Toyota could successfully substitute only 37.

That was enough to tide Toyota over while Merck recovered. But Sasaki said Toyota asked Merck to establish a backup production site in Germany, the supplier's home country. Merck agreed.

Expect all automakers to keep lower-tier suppliers on a tight leash. Toyota, Nissan and Honda are demanding more control over where suppliers get their components.

"The parts and materials that remained the biggest issues for the longest time after the earthquake aren't the parts that we buy, but the parts or materials that the Tier 1 or Tier 2 suppliers buy," says Honda's Yamashita. When possible, he says, "we want to have dual sources."

Autoblog: 2013 Nissan Altima taking shape

Out of respect for Priddy and Co. I am just supplying a link at the bottom of the page to the spyshots;

Now that we've seen the updated Toyota Camry and Chevrolet Malibu, not to mention the already-on-fire Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima, it's time for the rest of the mid-size sedan players to freshen up their offerings. Nissan looks to follow suit later this year with the all-new 2013 Altima, which our spy photographers recently caught testing with a very revealing camouflage treatment.

Up front, the new headlights and grille take a swoopier shape, as do the foglights below. (Squint, and you may see a bit of Hyundai Genesis in that front end – just sayin'.) Out back, the taillights get a similar dose of rakishness, probably akin to what we've been seeing on Nissan's latest designs – the Maxima, 370Z and Juke.

Reports have indicated that Nissan will offer a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the Altima, and if so, it's unclear whether or not the older, 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four will stick around. Expect the 3.5-liter V6 to still be the range-topping powerplant, with six-speed transmissions (manual and CVT) to be offered throughout the range.

2012 Nissan Juke Review

2012 Nissan Juke is ugly mutt: dog home yourself because it breathes the bizarre, promises a lively and engaging personality suggests and it just so.

Juke behaved as it should. It 'was fast, fun and - despite the alarming level of trouble - very easy to understand.

Juke is again on the other Suzuki SX4 Crossover that the U.S. is not really like any other small car. Nissan hopes that appeals to kids who might otherwise buy a Mazda3, Scion tC, Mini Cooper, or "boys driving for three years, BMW 3 Series," said Larry Dominique, Nissan North America vice president in charge of product planning.

2012 Nissan Juke

What they do not provide a good mileage for a small car. The ratings are OK, and Nissan mpg requires internal test can result in the high 20s, but the experience was the top half of kids driving hard, sometimes alone. And 'diet expensive prize, too.

Exterior design

The first is revealed Qazana Car Show - was presented in 2009 Geneva Motor Show - Juke was created in Nissan Design Europe in London, and honed in the Nissan Design Center (NDC) in Japan. Qashqai, the NDE is created, sold in Europe, Asia and Australia, while the Nissan Juke is marketed in Europe, Japan and the United States.

"The result of this international collaboration is a car coming, where East meets West, significant contributions to NDE and NDC in the key to creating such a striking design," said Shiro Nakamura.

It is a very individual line have been transferred virtually unchanged from Qazana. Design courage reflects the importance of the segment B of the European market: Europe is planned for the lion's share of sales before other major markets like North America and Japan.

The design team took inspiration for the design of Nissan Juke a variety of unusual sources. They looked back on a number of vehicles synonymous with an active lifestyle and sports - and that list included rally cars and motorcycles. It is clear to see how these ideas influenced the design.

2012 Nissan Juke

The result combines a number of different issues, but the Nissan through the DNA spiral. This is a solid hard body is responsible for the SUV driver but a car is very sensual, complex curves and also highlight the profile of the coupe side windows close and hidden rear door handles, which help to give the impression of two instead of four doors.

But there are clearly DNA family in the Nissan Design - boomerang rear lights, for example from 370Z - but none of these elements are slavishly copied to Nissan, while preserving the DNA is the only juke as unique, almost Maverick, design.

This is a key theme running through Nissan designs. Albaisa Alfonso, vice president of Nissan Design Europe, said. "Juke Nissan elements of our range of cars such as 370Z and Cube himself, but our intention is not to make a clear link between the cars, but natural Cube is a cool car, for example, and this freshness can be found in Nissan Juke ".

When the generous ground clearance, large wheels and tires, a high waistline and broad shoulder line, the bottom "half" is the car seems to be a pure SUV. This impression is accentuated typical SUV characteristics such as contrast black scuff and paint, while front and rear fender, lower body from under the car, which looks like the platform security.

The front part of the marshes of custody "of the air intake assembly, but instead use a simple grid fine mesh, the design team developed a series of casting in circular grooves ... This suggests biotic elements.

Before life, however, the Juke Nissan presents its sporting credentials. Steeply raked windshield, the perfect crossover Nissan signature upswept rear side window flick - and offer INCLINED ROOF online profile to remind the canopy air.

The rear of the roof includes a fixed rear spoiler reduces aerodynamic lift to aid stability at high speeds. Neat duck-tail crest was completed with the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and wind tunnel tests.

The lights also reflect the athletic agility of the car. On the face of these are divided into two different elements. Supervision of the upper half of the cover, contain thin rods daytime running lights and turn signals, while the main beam and low mounted lower on the nose of the car was inspired by the extra lights mounted on the rally cars in the sixties and seventies. At the rear, set fire back their own spin on the boomerang-shaped lights found on the 370Z.

A total of nine color palette of exterior colors are planned, two of whom are white, solid, and the Pearl, and three shades of one Nissan Juke - Come on Red, Blue and Brown Haptic the car, although the availability absolutely depends on the region.

Seiji Watanabe, deputy chief designer of the product. "We want our cars, our crosses, in particular, have a spirit of agility to qualify as light, agile, responsive Nissan Juke displays all these qualities and offers a real sense of optimism."

Interior Design

Nissan Juke active, sporty exterior is matched by its interior ... where the dominant feature also displays a feeling of pleasure: the center console, finished in gloss paint, similar to a motorcycle fuel tank.

"It's unexpected," said Alfonso Albaisa. "And that gives the cabin a certain appeal."

Reflective exterior is a blend of SUV and sports car attributes, interior design has a dominant position in driving, but all the attributes provided sports car. Shifter is sitting on top "motorbiketank" to ensure a slick change when the tank itself is not just a style statement, but also a challenging driver's knee airbag during Spirits in the curves.

Similarly, the central axis - which incorporates the new Nissan Dynamic Control - is ergonomically designed to ensure that the driver has immediate access to information and control in training mode.

2012 Nissan Juke

Attention to detail is evident everywhere. Chrome fittings and high quality materials used throughout the interior colors - red metal gray or pistol in the center console are available, depending on quality, black, silver or red accents for the leather or drugs 'sports' honeycomb - underscore the sporting attitude of the car. Even the door armrests in the shape of fins used by scuba divers, reflects an active perspective.

Despite all its compact size, roomy interior offers the skill levels of interior space, back room and head before the knee will be enough for most occupants. Unlike Qazana auto show, Nissan Juke is a five-seater.

The practical luggage compartment is big enough to take a golf bag or suitcase nine-inch maximum size, and it also includes a storage area by the ground (4WD versions excluded), taking its potential capacity to 251 liters ( VDA). In addition, 60/40 split rear, but also fold in one motion to provide a completely flat bed.

To hide the luggage from prying eyes, the trunk has a barrel full coverage that differs from the classic that is attached to the back door and the door is increased when the safe is open.

"The interior presents a series of attributes that really sums up the whole car. There is much excitement here, a real sense of fun and a real quality," said Albaisa.

Platform

Nissan Juke is based on the Renault-Nissan B platform and has a wheelbase of 2530mm, 4135mm high is long, 1765mm wide and 1570mm. To allow the top of the range using 17-inch wheels and 215/55 R17 tires front and rear track is 1525mm, the largest yet seen on the Alliance B platform.

Develop new models of platform to make some changes, and Nissan Juke foundations are no exception. The application of the Juke Nissan, has been extended, expanded and strengthened significantly, and faded to improve safety, refinement and fuel efficiency.

Although the mirrors of the basic suspension system found in other B-segment cars, with MacPherson struts in front and a torsion beam rear, new front subframe type support improved lateral stiffness of the assembly. With the geometry of the revised front suspension, which helped to promote better handling and ride comfort and further refinement.

2012 Nissan Juke

The 4wd versions of the Nissan Juke benefit further from the new multi-link rear suspension. When connected to Nissan's newly developed four-wheel drive torque vectoring technology to reduce understeer, reading Juke Nissan is top class, despite its higher ground clearance when the comfort is maintained.

In an urban environment, the combination of ground clearance and large tires, speed bumps and poor road surface will not cause discomfort as - or badly - as they would for a traditional sport sedan.

Despite its SUV and a relatively high eye-point, the front and rear roll center height Nissan Juke is as low as possible - as close to the conventional hatchback of a typical SUV - to reduce body roll when cornering.

Agile has also helped speed-sensitive electric power steering, standard on all models, and increase strength and rigidity of the upper body. Nissan juke ring structure includes a new concept, which connects the upper body and the rear suspension, which increases the torsional rigidity.

Engines and transmissions

Europe has three choices of engine and manual gearbox or CVT, while sales Juke Nissan will begin in the second half of 2010. At the top of the area is a newly developed 1.6-liter turbocharged direct injection gasoline engine that develops 140kW (190PS) and 240 Nm

Low friction, lightweight, 16-valve engine uses direct injection to improve combustion to optimize power and torque, fuel consumption and emissions. In addition, a turbocharger and intercooler to help improve their strength - this is one of the most powerful engines in its class - but changing the timing cycle control intake and exhaust (Twin VTC) to enhance low-end engine response . Degree of overlap allows the recirculation of exhaust gases.

Low friction techniques include the adoption of diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating on the valve lifters and camshafts polished. The result is an engine delivers a performance which, for a normally aspirated 2.5-liter engine, but with fuel economy a smaller engine.

The direct fuel injection engine in two versions of the Nissan Juke wheel unit will be coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. In the version with four-wheel drive, which will be mated to the CVT Nissan Xtronic transmission with manual six-speed.

2012 Nissan Juke

The second petrol engine displaces 1.6 liters and also has four valves per cylinder, is a member of the family much altered HR. HR16DE designated, it has undergone several significant changes with a larger exhaust manifold, a retuned intake manifold, twin VTC, improved feed intake and towels with a new catalyst formation of hexagonal cells.

New pistons with a revised crowns and integrated oil jet cooling was adopted with techniques such as low friction diamond-like carbon coating on the valve lifters.

But the biggest change was the development of a dual injection system - a world first - with two injectors per cylinder, each with tiny nozzles finer, more specific spraying fuel into the cylinders of an aerosol more efficient and complete combustion .

In addition to the modifications led to significant improvements in power, torque and fuel economy. The engine produces 86kW (117PS), representing an improvement of six percent compared to previous versions of the engine. Torque is improved by three percent to 157Nm, while its economy figures show an improvement of 5.6 percent. Powers normally aspirated gasoline engine two-wheel drive versions, and will be available with five-speed manual or optional CVT transmission Updated Xtronic, a CVT gearbox second to that used with the engine DIG.

The final choice of engine is familiar with the Alliance has developed 1.5-liter turbo K9K dCi common-rail diesel. 1461 cc eight-valve engine delivers good fuel economy, low emissions and operating costs with excellent maneuverability.

2012 Nissan Juke

With an output of 81kW (110p) at 4000 rpm and torque of 240 Nm at an impressive 1750 rpm, this unit has a fuel return rail and control unit for better efficiency. The injection pressure is 1,600 bar. Improve performance of accelerates performance spark plug cold start. Emission control systems include a diesel particulate filter (DPF) with a fifth injector cooling regeneration and recirculation of exhaust gases, while the amended provision turbocharger so that the distance between him and the DPF as short as possible .

Diesel is available in two wheel drive models with six-speed manual gearbox. Europe, all engines are fully Euro 5.

Although the manual transmission was made during the Qashqai largely unchanged, the two systems Xtronic CVT according to a number of key technologies that promise significant improvements in weight, packaging, performance and fuel efficiency.

2012 Nissan Juke

Updated XTRONIC CVT units, used in traditional 1.6 liter gasoline, is 10 percent lower than before, and 13 percent lighter Although the internal friction has decreased a significant 30 percent. This device is the world's first CVT with sub planetary gear which allows a much higher gear ratio - 7.3:1 - compared to the previous CVTS Nissan. Smaller, lighter pulleys, flexible and more efficient to block the oil pump, shock absorbers, contribute to good fuel consumption.

CVT XTRONIC a 6-speed manual turbo diesel Nissan Juke is more tuned to the sports performance of the revised manual mode for sharper acceleration in the same management system has been programmed to improve fuel efficiency. Both CVTS is an adaptive control system can be selected by Nissan Dynamic Control.

Unusual in its class, the Nissan Juke will be available with the optional four-wheel drive and more conventional front-wheel drive. A newly developed drive system is based on four-wheel-Nissan ALL MODE 4x4-in electronic technology, but now adds a lateral torque vectoring capacity of its arsenal.

Apart from front to rear torque split - up to a maximum at 50:50, it can now be divided on one side through the rear axle too. By monitoring vehicle speed, wheel speed, gear, steering angle, lateral G forces and now the rate of yaw of the vehicle, the torque distribution is extended to the outside rear wheel in turn to cut corners and improve the ability of the car when cornering. In total, 50% of the total available torque is sent either to the rear wheel.

The new rear axle includes electrical connectors at both ends and a new outfit the inclusion of this innovation is the first small car segment - technology that has until now only in top-of-the-range, premium vehicles.

The new system is much lighter and more compact than similar systems used by some other manufacturers.

Equipment lines and model

Almost the only traditional aspect of the Juke is a model of the Nissan line-up, which established the Nissan Visia, Acenta and Tekna lines. The lists of standard and optional equipment will be published closer to the date of sale, but the elements provided, such as automatic climate control, leather interior, Reversing camera, and all the available Intelligent Key, Nissan Juke customers as well as some unusual features .

One of these is the dynamic control of Nissan, the Central Command, and the display module, which allows the driver to change the settings for the Dynamic Drive and make changes more obvious functions, such as air conditioning.

Cleverly, the module takes different views, colors and characteristics, depending on how it is spent. Climate mode, the screen displays the interior temperature while the "buttons" show airflow preferences.

2012 Nissan Juke

However, in D-Mode, the buttons to change modes Normal, Sport and Eco behavior, modify the accelerator cards, the availability of the couple, working hours CVT, the steering effort and performance of air conditioning according to the same conditions. The screen, meanwhile, shows brand of engine and transmission and related information.

Because the sensitivity of parameters such as automatic headlights, can also be set through the system, while the screen changes color to indicate this type of information displayed. Conduct includes panels of information to the average speed, fuel, travel time and so on. In general, the display is designed to add a cooling sensation, the technology involved in it.

Accessories

Even though the Juke Nissan has a long list of standard equipment, Nissan has developed a wide range of accessories that allow owners to customize their cars even more. Among the items are available in different designs and alloy wheels, front and rear guards for the body to emphasize the part of SUV design.

Other exterior features include exhaust finishers, a roof spoiler and air deflectors on doors, while inside an owner can add the illuminated door sills and interior accent lighting. Key practices are advanced security systems, as well as opportunities for additional storage in the front armrest and the baggage claim area.

2012 Nissan Juke

European customers

2012 Nissan Versa Sedan Review

Small outside, big inside. Intelligent technology for next-generation efficiency. MSRP $ 10,990 base, and low. New dual injector system, and part of the CVT on the planet. Since combined city / highway fuel consumption of 33 miles per gallon. A new world of "V" (rich) surface. Sophisticated design and high quality interior.

There are thousands of ways for the new 2012 Nissan Versa sedan innovative entry-level compact sedan. And many ways to sum it all up. Perhaps a simple statement is the best: innovation in hand.

"The compact cars are a lot of attention lately due to rising fuel costs and concern for the environment however, many buyers are disappointed by what they find -. vehicles in the grip of a commitment," said Al Castignetti , vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc. "The Versa sedan, I usually design a" blank sheet ", taking into small cars in a new direction - which shows you do not have to sacrifice style for affordability, habitability of a smaller size, or handling high mpg. "

Small when you need it, wherever you want Big

Given that entry-level vehicles used as "workhorse" - for travel on weekdays, weekends racing and running on the transport of family and friends all week - the designers of the new sedan Nissan Versa has attempted to combine practical five passengers with a high degree of comfort and refinement. It also provides an unexpected level of entertainment available and connectivity features like Bluetooth ® navigation system with 5-inch touch screen display, satellite radio and an iPod ® / USB.

"We see buyers in this segment, as people who are always busy, even while you relax," said Castignetti. "With the amount of time they normally use in their vehicles, we want to make them feel good about their purchases after the new car smell is gone so we invested in areas they see and affect most of the available instrumentation -. similar vision fine, quality fabrics, bright and before finishing work on comfortable seats and rear passengers. "

Nissan Versa Sedan Interior to 90.0 cubic feet and the trunk space of 14.8 cubic feet (104.8 cubic feet in total) are designed not only look great on a spec sheet - passengers and cargo spaces are set for actual use. Nissan Versa sedan, for example, more legroom in the back as some midsize sedans - surpassing even luxury cars like the Lexus LS460, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the design of the boot focuses on the useful space, considering everything from the size of the hinges to the shape of the flanks. A 60-40 folding rear seat is available on SL models for greater versatility.

Other available interior features include trip computer, power windows with driver one-touch down, the speed sensing auto door locks, lever remote trunk release and steering wheel mounted audio controls. Two interior colors are available, sandstone and coal.

The Nissan Versa sedan new exterior design is a departure from most recent compact sedan that offers a sleek design, cool character who is sophisticated and very aerodynamic.

"The Versa sedan stands out as the only car in the cost of searching in the segment - with great power of the eye," said Castignetti "The proportions of the modern dynamic sculpture are without apparatus, projecting a big part. The higher the value of design as one might expect in a vehicle with a starting MSRP of $ 10 990 "

To achieve the style Versa Sedan, Nissan designers have given the outward form of a strong sense of volume, with wide broad shoulders and a shapely figure. In front, the Nissan Versa sedan design with new grille and jewel-like headlights sedan.

The front blends smoothly into the cabin, which provides fluid curves, while design elements such as the shape trunklid help give the new Nissan Versa sedan aerodynamic quality, including a low drag coefficient of only 0, 31.

In addition, to help ensure superior functionality, initially discussed new ideas between designers and design teams. For example, the jagged line in the middle of the roofline sweep the Nissan Versa sedan is not only a design feature, but the functional innovation, which helps to reduce the amplitude of vibration of the roof panel to create an interior passenger compartment more Quiet, the strengthening of the devices known as "bumper".

"The design and engineering met in an extraordinary collaboration to create a level of sophistication not only see but also feel," said Castignetti. "This helps give a sense of" modern values "that goes beyond the simple purchase price, as was expected, more expensive sedan."

Other features include an external antenna fixed roof, body-color front and rear bumpers, and is available in chrome-accented grille, black-out B-pillars, door handles and chrome front.

The 2012 Versa sedan is offered in eight exterior colors, including Metallic Blue, Blue Onyx, Super Black, Bright Silver, magnetic gray, brick red, fresh powder and titanium - which has already been reserved for the Nissan GT-R models Nissan.

Next-Generation Performance and a brand new V-platform

One of the biggest challenges for the design of a compact sedan which is, of course, to all - members of persons, goods, engine, gearbox and other mechanical parts. Often the solution is to bring fractional inches here, a fraction there and I hope that will add up to a service useful. The new Nissan Versa sedan, the approach was a little 'more radical - to create a whole new global platform and transmission, reducing the size of the engine and transmission, reducing parts and reduces the weight of the platform.

"It is unusual to develop a new platform for a vehicle in only its second generation, but when driven by a culture of innovation, such investments are easy to do," said Castignetti.

The new Versa sedan with front wheel drive 2012 global "V", the platform, called "V" versatile uses components from around 20 percent of the platform and weighs about 150 pounds lighter than the previous "B" platform form. While retaining the same wheelbase of 102.4 inches wide and 66.7 inches from the previous generation Nissan Versa sedan, the new model is 1.2 inches lower in height (59.6 inches) and less than 0 6 inches overall length (175.4 inches). The greatest gain size, however, is the gain in body length - provided by a more compact engine / transmission design allows for increased rear overhang of 2.7 inches (the distance between the center wheel back to the rear bumper).

"The new Versa sedan shows that when it comes to the aerodynamic efficiency of the packaging and are not all created equal small sedans," said Castignetti. "The same can be said about the engine that combines very many outstanding environmental performance, flexible and reactive power, quiet operation. "

HR16DE The second generation 1.6-liter 4-cylinder includes a wide range of technologies, making it one of the most advanced engines in the class. For example, while the engine uses an average of one injector per cylinder with fuel injection, the new Nissan Versa sedan engine is equipped with two injectors mounted simplified near the intake valve of each cylinder. This double-injection system provides greater fuel injection spray nozzles with a thinner lower (about 57 percent thinner than the particle size of the previous generation of single injection of design) to help achieve stable combustion.

The new compact, lighter engine also uses a dual-time control of continuous variation (CVTC) mounted on the intake and exhaust system (CVTC against conventional systems that are mounted at the entrance only), similar to the system used in Nissan's flagship Maxima. The use of CVTC in the port of departure increases the thermal efficiency, reduces inhalation resistance and offers a four percent improvement in energy efficiency.

Other improvements include the addition of the oil jet piston, piston Tune in top condition and the expansion of the diameter of the exhaust manifold.

"In order to integrate the new system of double injectors in a vehicle entry level is very appropriate to Nissan corporate philosophy of" Innovation for All "- to bring the technology to high-volume segments, instead of saving them only for high-end machines, "said Castignetti. "The new system also uses dual-injection about half the amount of rare metals in the catalyst by reducing the amount of unburned fuel and hydrocarbon emissions."

The new 1.6-liter engine is rated at 109 hp @ 6000 rpm and 107 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm.

Nissan Versa Sedan is available in 5-speed transmission (1.6 S model), and the next generation Xtronic CVT ™. CVT can constantly change gear ratio of transmission by connecting two pulleys and a belt made of metal, changing the diameter of the use of hydraulic pressure. The new design adds an additional CVT gear ratio, using the planet to help improve efficiency.

CVT is also a gear ratio is 7.3:1, which is wider than the traditional CVTS and also a typical 7-speed automatic transmission. Friction is reduced by about 30 percent by weight to about 13 percent, and the size of about 10 percent over the previous CVT design Nissan Versa hatchback.

Nissan Versa also offers low rolling resistance P185/65R15 all-season tires with 15-inch aluminum alloy available.

"The result of these improvements and progress is the engine new Nissan Versa sedan burns cleaner and uses less fuel, which, combined with improved aerodynamic performance and better CVT reduces total fuel consumption by about five miles gallon compared with the Versa sedan 2011, "said Castignetti. "Better mileage means fewer stops at stations -. Y" The room in the portfolio "for further work"

The fuel economy of 2012 Versa Sedan is a city of about 30 mpg, 37 mpg highway and 33 mpg combined CVT (27/36/30 mpg with the 5-speed manual) (provisional).

All 2012 Nissan Versa sedans are equipped with an independent MacPherson strut front suspension and rear torsion beam suspension, front and rear bars. Other standard equipment includes power steering and power assisted front disc / rear drum brake. Anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic brake force distributor (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA) are standard on all models Nissan Versa Sedan.

In addition, the new Versa will be the first Nissan model in the United States under the brand PureDrive ™ designation. PureDrive be used in models using Nissan's latest technology to promote eco-driving and reduce emissions of CO2.

Standard safety features are found on every 2012 Nissan Versa Sedan Nissan system include advanced air bags (bags) (includes two-stage front airbags and airbags supplemental front seat side of the chest for extra protection), mounted seat driver and front passenger airbags, side impact further, and roof-mounted side curtain airbags for front occupants and head-protection rear outboard.

Additional security features include standard lock (lower anchors and tethers for children) system, child safety locks on rear doors, child seat anchors and upper winds Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Vehicle Dynamic Control ( VDC) and traction control (TCS).
